Portfolio manager
Also called: portfolio management service, PMS
A person or firm registered with SEBI to manage an individual client's money in a separate account, with authority to invest it on the client's behalf.
Unlike a mutual fund, which pools many investors' money, a portfolio manager runs a separate account for each client. Managing other people's money in this way requires SEBI registration.
Offers to "trade your capital for a share of the profits" from people who are not registered are unauthorised portfolio management, and they carry none of the protections of the regulated service.
