Investment adviser
Also called: registered investment adviser, RIA
A person or firm registered with SEBI to give investment advice for a fee, whose registration you can check on SEBI's website.
In India, anyone who gives investment advice for consideration must be registered with SEBI as an investment adviser, subject to some exceptions defined in the regulations. SEBI publishes a searchable register showing each adviser's registration number, name, contact details and validity.
Registration shows that someone is permitted to give advice. It does not guarantee the advice is good, and fraudsters sometimes quote a genuine adviser's registration number, so check that the name and contact details match too.
