Stockbroker
Also called: broker, brokerage firm
A SEBI-registered member of a stock exchange that sends investors' buy and sell orders to the exchange.
Individuals cannot send orders to an exchange directly. They use a stockbroker, a firm that is a member of the exchange and registered with SEBI. The broker provides a trading account, usually through an app or website, and charges brokerage and other fees.
You can check whether a broker is registered on SEBI's website. Payments to registered brokers should go to verified accounts in the broker's name.
