Stock exchange
Also called: exchange, bourse
An organised marketplace that lists companies' shares and matches buy and sell orders under common rules.
A stock exchange lists companies that meet its requirements, runs the electronic system where orders meet, matches buyers with sellers, publishes prices, and supervises trading. India's two main exchanges are the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE.
An exchange does not set prices and does not buy or sell shares itself. Prices come from the orders investors place.
