Sensex
Also called: BSE Sensex
An index of 30 large, well-established companies listed on BSE, and India's oldest widely followed share index.
The Sensex tracks the combined price movement of 30 large companies on BSE, weighted by their free-float market capitalisation. Along with the Nifty 50, it is the number most often quoted when the news reports how "the market" did.
Like any index, it represents only its own basket, which is revised periodically.
