Promoter
Also called: promoter group
In India, the founders or controlling shareholders of a listed company, together with their family and related entities.
Indian regulations use "promoter" for the people or companies that control a listed company, usually its founders and their families or a parent company. Promoters often hold a large part of the shares and have significant influence over how the company is run.
Listed companies disclose their promoters' shareholding regularly. Changes in promoter holdings, and whether promoters have pledged their shares as security for loans, are closely watched by investors.
