Lakh and crore
Also called: lakh, crore
The Indian units for large numbers. One lakh is 1,00,000 (one hundred thousand) and one crore is 1,00,00,000 (ten million).
Indian figures group digits differently from international ones: after the first three digits, commas come every two digits. So one lakh is written 1,00,000 and one crore 1,00,00,000.
Useful conversions: 10 lakh = 1 million; 1 crore = 10 million; 100 crore = 1 billion; 1 lakh crore = 1 trillion.
Example
A market capitalisation of ₹2,50,000 crore is ₹2.5 lakh crore, or about ₹2.5 trillion.
