Two-factor authentication
Also called: 2FA, two-step verification, multi-factor authentication
A login that needs a second proof, such as a one-time password or an authenticator app code, as well as your password.
Two-factor authentication means a stolen password alone is not enough to get into your account. It only works if the second factor stays private: anyone who persuades you to share an OTP can get past it.
Example
Logging in to a trading app with your password and then a six-digit code from an authenticator app.
